HAPPENINGS ON THE HILL

Historical Marker Provided by Humphreys County Tourism

Posted

Thanks to Humphreys County Tourism, the Civil War Fort is sporting a NEW Historical Marker, located at the entrance to the Humphreys County Museum & Civil War Fort on 201 Fort Hill Road in Waverly.  The marker beautifully and accurately expresses the motivation and history of creation of the earthen mound fort. The Fort and Museum is one of over 1,400 Civil War Trail sites across six states marketed to travelers around the world via web sites and various social media platforms. The Fort headquartered the 12th and 13th US Colored Troops, 8th Iowa Cavalry, and 1st Kansas Battery in 1863 through the end of the Civil War. It has been designated as  “the best preserved Civil War fort in the state of Tennessee.”

Everyone is encouraged to explore Tennessee’s Historical Markers, especially in the mid-state, and contact Museum Curator Ted Rice at 931-62-2118, to schedule a tour of the Museum and Fort to learn more of our history and enjoy this historical site.
